WSUS Error 80244019 and 80070057

by Mike Norman on November 30, 2009

I came across this error today and noticed there is very little useful information out there about it. So i got this error while trying to get our WSUS server back on track with its updates, for one reason or another it hadn’t been touched in a while and was throwing this error while trying to update. Most of the time you get this its because your proxy settings have been mis configured. but if your not going through a proxy to pull your windows updates then here’s a list of possibilities.
Make sure the wsus user has access to install its own updates (goes without saying, but this can be an issue if someone has been playing with permissions on your domain.)
Another possible issue is that one of your WSUS service packs wasn’t fully installed. Go though your update install history and note any recent updates that failed (especially if they are service packs) then simple uninstall them from “Programs and Features” (or add remove programs/windows components if your on 2003)
After that i would suggest a reboot, then manually re-download the service pack and re-apply.
After that you may need to reboot one more time (windows….) then updates should be able to be downloaded normally.
Hope this helps someone else out there!!
