Quick Tip: Windows 7 Admin Folder!

by Mike Norman on January 4, 2010

As it turns out windows 7 loves you. there is a way to get pretty much every setting on the OS all in one spot. and that is by creating an admin folder! just go wherever you want this, create a new folder, and name it

Admin.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Then bask in the majesty that is an easy to use config page!

    Don’t do this on a Vista box! I tried it on the Desktop and got stuck in an endless loop of “Windows Explorer has stopped working” -> “Windows Explorer is being restarted”. The same crash -> restart sequence happens if you create it anywhere else, say, on the root of C:, but at least then it’s not an endless loop.

    It was relatively easy to fix. I brought up Task Manager, killed all instances of explorer.exe, and then removed the directory through a cmd window.
