As it turns out windows 7 loves you. there is a way to get pretty much every setting on the OS all in one spot. and that is by creating an admin folder! just go wherever you want this, create a new folder, and name it

Admin.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Then bask in the majesty that is an easy to use config page!

So i had a hell of a time upgrading to 7 and ended up having to reformat my drive. which means my XP install was wiped out. so i did a clean install with an upgrade cd/key. Everything worked fine then i couldn’t activate! So after some poking around here’s how i resolved it.
First pop open your registry editor by clicking start, then typing “regedit” in the blank. go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE” and locate the “MediaBootInstall” key, double click on it an change the 1 to a 0. hit ok and close regedit. Then click start and type cmd. most of you fuckers just hit enter didn’t you? you fucked up. Click start then type cmd in the blank and right click on the option that is available and left click “Run As Administrator”

Now type in “slmgr /rearm” and hit enter. it will ask you to reboot, go ahead. When your system comes back up just try to activate it like normal and your all set!

That will make the OS think that you upgraded properly instead of doing a clean install

I’ve encountered numerous problems while installing windows 7, I figured id post the issues and solutions here so other people don’t go as insane as I did during the install process.

My first issue was it windows 7 freezing at the blue flowery splash screen thing. It would sit there and do nothing, waited for over an hour to make sure I wasn’t giving up too soon, it wasn’t me. But it was my BIOS! The solution to that issue was flashing my BIOS to the newest version. At that point I was able to get to the next step

My second problem was windows 7 not recodnizing any of my harddrives. I have 3 perfectly functional sata drives and it kept throwing different errors ranging from cannot detect hard disk to unable to load drivers for harddisk. I unplugged all but the drive I wanted to install to and never saw the error again.

My next issue was the install freezing at “completing installation” after a lot of googleing and yelling (yelling was not entirely nessesary, but I reccomend it to keep you sane during this process) I discovered I needed to delete all the partitions on the drive I was installing windows 7 to. And NOT format the drive. Just delete the partitions, leave them as unallocated space, and click next. Windows will automaticly create a 100mb system drive (no fuckin clue why) and use the remaining space as your OS drive. The the install will progress from there. The first time I did this though the install spazed out and threw up disk unreadable errors. If that happens just reboot and try again. Your harddrive and windows 7 dvd are probobally fine. Its just microsoft being tards

The last problem I had was windows 7 angered me too much after the crappy install process. The solution to this issue is extreemly fast and stable, works every time. Install ubuntu.

Short story before we start, i was aw Quakecon 2009 earlier this month and the network would not allow steam connections to cut down on bandwidth abuse, but my Steam install had not updated in a while so i could not play any of my Steam games on the LAN. if i had setup this Tethering solution all of my problems would have been solved. if you have an android phone id recommend you get tethering setup even if you don’t think you will need it. because when you do its already too late.
So this is how to setup your android device to act as a proxy for connectivity to the Internet, or Tethering!
First off, like most unconventional solutions, you need to enable installing non market android apps. To do this Hit Menu then settings then Applications, then check the Unknown Sources box. While your in that area we will also need to enable USB Debugging to do that go to Menu then Settings, Then Applications, then Development, then check the USB debugging box. Now we are ready to install the app to allow for Tethering. To facilitate this I’ve generated this handy QR code. Just open the Android Barcode Scanner and scan this:

We are done with the Device settings for now. next we will need to turn to the computer you want to use tethering with, usually a laptop but it can be any computer. You should already have the android driver installed, If your have an up to date Windows or MAC computer you can skip that, but for a Linux compy you’ll need to go Here to install the Android Driver.
Now you’ll want to install the Android SDK! Quick and easy install, but its a 100MB+ Install Mac, Windows, and Linux installs can be found Here. When your done installing, plug your phone into the computer, and run the app we installed “Proxy app”.Press the “Start Proxy” Button. Now open a Command prompt in the folder that you uncompressed the SDK. Navigate to the location of adb.exe.For example mine was “C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r3\tools” as the folder containing the file. so i hit start, then run, then cmd, then typed “cd c:\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r3\tools”. once your there type “adb forward tcp:8080 localabstract:Proxy” for a windows box, or if your on a Linux or mac “./adb forward tcp:8080 localabstract:Proxy”. This will start the Proxy server running on port 8080.
This is the easy part, set firefox to use a Proxy server to do that go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Settings > Manual proxy Configuration, and fill in the HTTP proxy as localhost, and the port as 8080. Hit OK and your done!
You can now access the Internet on your computer through your Android Phone! Enjoy!
