If your anything like me you’ve cough world cup fever!!! Ive been using my android phone to keep up to date on the games i cant be at the pub to see, track my teams, and overall enrich my world cup experience! i thought I’d share some of the apps I’ve been using:

The best app I’ve found so far for tracking stats, players, finding times, etc etc is “World Droidcup”! its got a pretty interface, ALOT of information, but can sometimes be slow on the updating. I had to run the app a couple times before it started working properly, but its definitely number one on my list for its ease of use and abundance of information (after some initial hiccups)

My second favorite app for getting all the information you can handle on the game is Goal.com Mobile! its sleek, shiny, and gives you alot of information! Its coverage for the world cup isn’t perfect, but if you are a soccer fan then i definitely recommend this for all your games post world cup! you can set favorites in every league, track players, get updates on stats and standings. its absolutely wonderful for soccer in general!

And I’ve saved the best for last! One of the great things about hosting this world cup in South Africa is the energy you get from the fans in the stand! So much national pride, love of the game, and they have brought their own touch to the game…. that’s right, I’m talking about the Vuvuzelas! The wonderful horns that will forever remind me of soccer! And this is the best app to get your Vuvuzela on in your local pub or watch party! “World Cup Virtual Vuvuzela” Ive tested all the ones on the market now, and this one is absolutely the best!

That’s all Ive got for now! not really much else that would improve the world cup for an android user other than mobile video, looks like we will need to wait till next world cup for that one! Hope you enjoy my suggestions!!

So back in 2004 I shaved a quake symbol into my head for Quakecon, it was wicked awesome and I got alot more free stuff as a result. but I was 18 at the time.. I’m 24 now.  What I’m saying is I want to do it again, so as usual with these decisions I’m turning it over to the Internet. what do y’all think?

Get ready for the 2010 Texas Game Break! What is the Texas Game Break? It is very hard to put a name on what this is. What it is, has never taken place before in the state of Texas. People from all walks of life, poker players, board game fanatics, console gamers, role playing gamers, dominoes and even social media games will be in attendance. From Tournaments, exhibits, a gamers market place, Lan Parties, live RockBand contests, Game Design Classes, and Social Game areas. Also available will be Speakers from the game community from Artists, Programmers, Sound Developers, and Game Companies will be there. Booths featuring higher education in gaming will also be on site for anyone who wants to pursue a career in the Game Industry. It’s not a festival, nor a conference, it’s not even a convention. Ill be on my way to Quakecon 2008 in about an hour and 15 mins. So very excited, thought id throw out this post as a placeholder for pictures and whatnot as i post them!

Recent gaming news has revealed that id software has been purchased by ZeniMax, this initially caused me to panic and fear for id and Quakecon, however after reading up on things and some googling i thought id share my results.

The company that purchased id Software is ZeniMax, they also own Bethesda Softworks. Which has licensing rights to Startrek, Starwars , and Terminator franchises among many others. so this purchase effectively gives id rights to make games on those subjects (long time hope of a Startrek FPS that’s good). Bethesda is also responsible for The Elder Scrolls series, which could only be made better by using ids RAGE engine. so which this merger as it were we can only expect to have both Awesome game companies improve! And it looks like ZeniMax has gotten Carmack and id as a whole to drop their “1 new game every 4 years” model in favor of “lets make badass games ad well and quickly as possible” model. More id games = good. Not only that but id Staff is largely being left as is!

id Software will continue to operate as a studio under the direction of its founder, John Carmack. No changes will be made in the operations of id Software in the development of its games. All the principals at id Software have signed long-term employment contracts, assuring they will continue in their roles developing games at the studio

Which is music to my ears! John Carmack is the heart and soul of id, i don’t think i would have quite the fanatic love for the company if he was no longer a part of it. that being said there will obviously be a new boss in town for id.Robert Altman is the CEO of ZeniMax, and seems to be built for this job. I cant tell if hes a supervillan of Lex Luthors mental acuity, or an unlucky badass (I’m voting for supervillan) a bit of quick research on Altman shows that he was under suspicion of fraudulent actions involving the sale of a bank, but he was acquitted of all charges and banned from banking….. so i can only assume (hope) he has a boatload of payoff money stashed away somewhere from this whole venture and got off clean. Take this and add that he married WonderWoman, and bam. you’ve got your awesome supervillan game software company owning badass. which can only be a good thing for id. And i have been told by an unconfirmed source that Quakecon is not only still on, but is getting MORE sponsors as a result of this buy!!!

To summarize, this is why i think this deal is good:

1. id has access to Startrek licensing (Good Startrek FPS)
2. id Now has the funding to increase staff and make games better and faster
3. Bethesda has access to much better game engines
4. Both companies are being run by a badass
5. And id is being pushed to be what they once were in the gaming industry. The best!

Man i have been hella neglecting my blog lately. not that my 2-3 readers really mind, but ive been really busy.

Just got back form the much anticipated beach trip. and i gotta tell you, every year i look forward to it so hard, counting doen the days until we leave, and every time come back not sure if it was overall a fun trip or not. my feelings about it always very from extremely happy to extremely miserable. in this case i gotta say I’m leaning toward the miserable side. mostly because of the sand, every year its the sand. not like sand is an entirely unexpected thing to find at the beach. but none of us were expecting sand flying at us at upwards of 20mph. or the winds throwing our tents around. the annoying spring breakers also played a large part in the unpleasantness of the trip. so much annoying music and the incessant “whoo”-ing.

It wasn’t all bad though by any means. alot of fun hanging out with friends, playing in the ocean, and drinking. but still not sure if it was a net happiness gain. anyway, pictures will be posted soon.

Oh btw, Who is your homeboy?

I went to barcamp Austin this previous Saturday. not sure how to puit it into words, it was *really* fucking badass². Met some new friends, got to hang out with the creative space group (of which im a part of now) w00t. Went to some really good talks on web security, NFS storage, twitter. pretty much everything. + free beer and swag!

I got to camp out at renfest for the first time, wow it was alot of fun! got there Friday night , rolled out sleeping bags and went wondering around the camp site drinking and socializing, it was awesome, met alot of interesting people, and even got offered a job in Austin doing what I’m doing now but with more $$ . we ended up going to bed around 1-ish i think, went to the festival the next day, got lost in a maze, ate drank and had a great time!!! sat night we had to call off camping due to rain though, ill post pics as soon as i get them (prob a month or 2 knowing Tanya)
I will defiantly be camping again next year!!!
