So I’ve been following the tron legacy viral marketing stuff and i love it! Ive always loved the idea of viral marketing, I’ve done similar posts but this one is going to be my favorite!
So the first thing that happened was the Comic Con reveal. they had a bunch of people meet at a recreation of Flynns arcade, i didn’t get a chance to go but it looked awesome!

Now here’s the part you can follow along with! Flynnlives.com launches, its an underground group of people convinced the protagonist from the original movie is alive somewhere. He apparently vanished after the events of the original Tron movie. a few months later they send out Bits to various scifi bloggers with the link to Zero Hour. This was a binary countdown to the page you can see now, at the end of the countdown was a list of greyed out cities lighting up a few at a time, when your city is up you could click it and get the location to a meet, here you would be given a wallet, containing various items (see video below) and a cell phone which the coordinators of this marketing event use to contact the “envoys”.

Next a few other related sires cropped up. like the Encom website and this strange website. When you visit the second website you see 0 2 3 and RPG. each of these sections is something of a quiz. 0 is the Fibonacci sequence, 2 is prime numbers, 3 is Conway’s sequence, and RPG is the levels in the original Tron arcade game. This was truly badass doing it while everyone else was trying to find out what the hell you were supposed to do. anyway at the end of it you are given a link to the trailer for tron legacy! if you haven’t seen it, check it out!

Next up was the launch of Arcade Aid. a collage of 56 game references. if you name then all then you have proven your worth and will be able to create a Encom badge! which you are supposed to use to infiltrate the company. here’s mine:

Scanning the QR code on the badge will lead you to an Encom internal site using your employee ID and password you can login and access your encom email. all the emails are pretty standard corporate stuff sofar. but there is an announcement about a press conference in less than 3 weeks.

Update: the “Encom press conference” looked like fun! things didn’t go off without a hitch though! heres the first part of the conference, with an announcement from Alan Bradly.

The following video was supposed to happen During Alan Bradly’s talk, but due to high winds the helicopter wasn’t able to take off until too late. so they improvised by grabbing a bunch of FlynnLives folk and getting them to storm the stage.

Another quick tip for google chrome users. If you want themes for your google Chrome browser you will need to update to the new Beta 3 version. then go to the themes page and go wild! However when I and many others did this we would get the following error when trying to apply themes.

Invalid value for theme images – tints must be decimal numbers

A real pain in the ass. the way to fix it is just uninstall chrome and reinstall from the beta install. im told the next beta willnot have this issue, but this is a quick fix. Enjoy Chrome themes!!

So there are a few of the possible epic wins and disasters coming in the next few years (movie wise at least). Hope some of these are as awesome to you as they sounded to me!

Thia blog is quickly turning into a Google fanboy blog, and keeping in that spirit i wanted to help get the word out about Google Favorite Places! Google has approached Awesome people in all fields and asked them to create maps of their favorite places! you can see master chefs favorite restraints, to Al Gore’s favorite carbon offsets tax shelter! the really spiffy part is Google is dropping these place markers at the actual locations!

Looks like awesome free advertising for various locations, And incentive for businesses to list themselves in Google Maps! This is just another reason why i love Google!

A group of 10 Italian wall lizards were released on an island off the coast of Croatia have defied Ben Stein and rapidly evolved to better fit their new home.

In just a few decades the 5-inch-long (13-centimeter-long) lizards have developed a completely new gut structure, larger heads, and a harder bite, researchers say.

Now I’m not too caught up on the genetic diversity needed among a population of lizards to sustain the species, but i suspect mutations would be crazy apparent if it were 10 humans left on an island for 30 generations. anywhoo there are about 5,000 of them now. much more suited to their environment than they were, evolving totally new digestive systems, and changing their social behavior.
I suppose this means proponents of intelligent design will research this further, and take the new information into account when forming their beliefs…. HA! i wish.

Ive been too lazy to really write any blog posts latly, so i think today I’m going to use my weblog as they were originally intended to be used. a whole lot of links today.

First off I’d like to share with you the “Twelve Virtues of Rationality“, a listing and explanations of the 12 virtues one ought to strive to embody. very well said, i’d be willing to call it the atheist new-testament .
Next is one of the most creative art projects i’ve seen in a while! its called the “One Day Poem Pavilion” and is designed to display a different section of the poem as the sun shines though the carefully placed holes in the pavilion. really difficult to explain, so heres a picture.

Next up is an article about Programmable tattos. i don’t know what to say about this. i love it so much and want one so bad that I’m too overwhelmed to try to describe or review the idea. so heres the link.
In the “upcoming movies i hella want to see” dept, theres Blindness, The Spirit, The Hobbit, Watchmen, “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan“, and ofcourse Quantum of Solace
and ill close with a list of the top 5 most badass presidents. its no suprise who is #1

Man we waste time in space. the whole of the human race, any and all governments waste too much time in space, we could be going to mars, studying all kinds of spiffy things in Zero G. a bunch of doctors recently did the first Zero G surgery in the plane that simulates being in space. but the people who actually get to space, they’re watching cockroaches fuck and examining the offspring.

Guys, we need to focus here. lets get some cool shit done, we don’t need to make breeding super space roaches a high priority, infact we dont need to do that shit atall! thats number 3 on my top 10 list of things we should not do! according to the researchers:

Cockroaches conceived in space onboard the Russian Foton-M bio satellite have developed faster and become hardier than ‘terrestrial’ ones, a research supervisor said on Thursday.

The article went on to say that the researchers have been monitoring the space-roaches since OCTOBER! I wouldn’t devote a week of space time to this, much less 3 months… Come on guys lets try to do more awesome stuff and way less super-bug related things.

The University of Tokyo & the folded paper plane society are planning to fly a special paper plane model back to earth from the International Space Station. The 30-40cm, 30 gram plane is constructed from paper that can withstand a mach 7 high velocity stream for 10 seconds. A test plane one fifth of the size withstood temperature of 300 degrees without burning up.
