An Atheist Responce

by Mike Norman on November 5, 2008

Found this video while stumbling around. very well said retort to 90% of what the religious ask the non religious. and the ze frank speech patterns make it all that more fun to listen to. Enjoy!

might use a spellchecker — response

only xians can get away with ignorance

  • Akolyte01

Awesome. He gets into all the good points while remaining respectful and not getting mired in pointless “Religion is EVIIIL” squabbling.

  • Zack

I agree with Akolyte01, he makes tons and tons of good points, yet never attacks religion outright (for the most part).

Great video editing, too. The movement and irregular “jokes” kept me interested, even though I’ve heard/read most of this before… Also, good that he looks at the camera, and not below it, shows he took the time to edit it properly while probably reading his prepared notes between shots

    all around good video.

Very good video, he does not really bring anything new to the table, most of the stuff in his video comes from around the web. He does however communicate it very effectivly. He is respectful and very articulate. Often times I find myself getting frustrated with the circular logic and the like employed by the religious, I only wish I could maintain the freindly clear attitude that this chap seems to posess.

    Well done mate, great vid.

  • Stephen

Going drinking and trashed with your mates is not a waste of time good sir!
Nice vid, sometimes religious people are so obtuse they just cant grasp this simple logical viewpoint of an atheist, its just beyond their conditioning.

  • video-viewer

    sexy atheist…

  • BJE

    Good job dude! :)

Great example of an Atheist who can bring the arguments to the table and remain respectful, and make you laugh at the same time.

    “That’s great kool-aid!”

  • $hadow

He’s reading from the computer screen. But the things he says are nice.. and thoughtful. And the editing’s really nice.

coffeeghost.net is the website of the creator of this vid, he’s got a lot of good stuff. If you like this, take a look at the rest of what he’s got to say

i have a problem with your burden of proof argument. If i make a positive claim about IPU (Invisible Pink unicorns exist), and you say “I have no idea, but until you can prove it, i will go about living as i always have” (a negative assertion) then the burden of proof is on me. In the same sense if you say “IPU’s 100% do not exist” (another positive assertion), and I say I have no idea, the burden of proof is on you. if i say “IPU exists” and you say “IPU does not exist” we each have the burden of proof. the burden of proof is both on the theist and the atheist. the only person who avoids it is the agnostic…

  • Phil E. Drifter

Sorry, you’re wrong, norsinnewyork. Things that do not exist cannot be proven. There is nothing to prove and there is no way to prove them since they don’t exist. Since you can only prove something exists, there is no burden of proof lying on the shoulders of the atheist, they have nothing to prove. It is up to the god-fearing religitards to prove god exists, which is impossible, because he(she/it) doesn’t exist.

Thank you for making that video. It was very well thought and presented. I hate that people out there are misinformed about the ‘beliefs’ of atheists. The belief is like you said ‘if you can prove it to me than I will believe it.’ I don’t know and I wasn’t there when the world was created. So until religion can come up with a more practical answer, I’ll trust in the wisdom of science as it is allowed to evolve.

to Phil E. Drifter, and all who agreed with his post:
i do not understand your argument. you can prove something does not exist. it is called reductio ad absurdum. it means to prove there is an inherent contradiction in the something, and therefore it is logically impossible. Other than that, I am aware of no other means of proving the nonexistence of something, although i would be interested to hear of other mechanisms. This being said, i will admit according to the philisophical standards of proof (based on boolian algebra), it is very difficult to prove the non-existence of anything. so i will repeat my original statement, perhaps slightly clearer this time:

say there is a room with no windows. if i say “there is an elephant in that room”, you can say prove it. if i say “there is no possible way there is an elephant in that room”, you can say prove it. please answer why atheism is different (and please dont say because god is a ridiculous claim while an elephant is not, unless you wish to back up that statement)

the burden of proof is not on the one who doubts the elephant. but the one who affirms it is there.

  • Kagrath

NEONDEMON is correct. Bring us evidence that an elephant is there than we would believe it. Same with religion. If you could empirically prove the existence of a divine being, then atheist would accept it. More to the point, why should anyone believe in something that others told you if they have no proof? All I see is those who are too weak to admit that they’re not special and there is no afterlife. Sorry guys. Accept the obvious oblivion all mortals are doomed to and move on.

someone should create/post the text version of this, i know it exists, the proof is in the eye movements that suggest he is reading during the vid.

  • Heather

This video was hilarious! I really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting
